Right Here, Right Now #357
The contrast between how things appear and how you want them to appear brings up a lot of contrast at times.
We wouldn't, if we were in your physical shoes, try to smooth out that contrast.
We would, instead, use the contrast and leverage the heck out of it.
For example, if you don't like the image in the mirror,...
...you could decide that it's OK that it looks that way to you.
...you could decide that the image is temporary and that it's going to be more pleasing the next time you see it.
...you could decide that you're going to take the action that pops up in that moment that may, or may not, be logically connected to the image in the mirror.
These are, of course, theoretical possibilities and no attempt to show you what you should do, for we would have no idea, nor do you until you encounter the contrast.
The point here is this: instead of trying to escape the mirror and pretend as if you had no reaction, we would pay attention to the reaction and use it.
But, and this is a big but, only as it feels better and is easy to do.
We would not try to milk the contrast.
We would take what offers itself in that moment and use it instead of ignoring it.
Most of all, we would pay attention to what arises as the next better-feeling thought.
